The top management of MKMA had a meeting with the representatives from Kolej Universiti Teknologi Tun Hussein Onn (Kuittho) headed by Dr. Sulaiman , head of Mechanical Engineering Department of Kuittho. The meeting focused on the "Unemployment Graduates Retrained Program" which was initiated by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU), Prime Minister's Department. Under this programme, Kuittho will provide a five months' textile course for the unemployed graduates. All fees will be borne by the government and each student will be given an allowance of RM500 per month.
During the meeting, MKMA stressed on the importance of selection of suitable candidates. The said graduates should have a mission and interest to work in textile and apparel industry. Besides, their previous degree should be of related field preferably majoring in science or engineering courses.
As for the syllabus, the first two months will concentrate on basic textile knowledge, follow by the next three months dividing the students into 4 sectors namely spinning, knitting, dyeing and apparel. During the training period, students are to have onsite training at different factories too. The course is expected to commence on June 2002 with the first batch of 50 students.
