Australian apparel imports decline in FY26

Australia’s apparel imports declined 2.3% year on year to $7.1 billion during July to March of FY26, reflecting softer demand in the clothing sector.

However, imports of textile yarn and fabrics increased during the period, indicating continued resilience in domestic textile demand. Fibre exports also recorded growth compared to the same period last year.

The latest trade trend marks a shift from FY25, when Australia experienced weak export performance despite a recovery in apparel and textile imports.
