Adidas Confirms Layoffs at India Tech Hub, Around 20% Employees Affected

German sportswear company Adidas has started cutting jobs at its technology hub in Gurugram. The affected employees were informed about the changes during a town hall held, according to reports.

A report by Wocult estimated that 350 or more employees could be affected out of a workforce of around 700, including software engineers, data scientists and data engineers. However, Adidas stated that the layoffs are expected to affect less than 20% of its technology workforce in India.

According to the company, the decision is part of its efforts to align its operating model with changing business requirements. The changes are aimed at simplifying parts of the organisation, strengthening critical capabilities and preparing the business for long-term growth as technology requirements evolve.

The company added that India remains a strategically important market and that its technology organisation will continue to support its growth, innovation and digital transformation initiatives. At the same time, Adidas said it continues to invest in strategic capabilities and has open positions across the organisation, encouraging affected employees to apply for relevant roles.

According to the Wocult report, the affected employees have been divided into two groups. One group received exit letters on September 15, while employees in the second group have been asked to remain with the company until December 15 to complete handovers to colleagues at other technology hubs.

During this period, employees in the second group can also apply for other roles within Adidas. Those who do not secure another position by December 15 have reportedly been told that the date will be their last working day.

However, details of the severance package, notice pay and redeployment support for affected employees could not be independently confirmed.

Adidas’ Gurugram office houses its local marketing organisation as well as one of the company’s Global Engineering Tech Hubs. Meanwhile, the company has expanded its operations in India in recent years, including the opening of a Global Business Services centre in Chennai in 2024.

The job cuts at Adidas come as technology companies and multinational firms continue to restructure their operations in India. Several companies have reduced headcounts or reorganised teams in 2026 as businesses adjust their technology investments, including spending on artificial intelligence, automation and cloud infrastructure.

Companies including Oracle and PayPal have reported workforce reductions in India. In addition, global technology companies such as Amazon, Uber, Meta and Flipkart have undertaken restructuring and job cuts across their Indian operations.
