Sri Lanka garment exports decline 6% in early 2026 amid weak demand

Garment exports from Sri Lanka declined by 6% in January to February 2026, reflecting continued softness in global apparel demand.

Despite the drop in apparel shipments, textiles and value-added segments showed relative resilience. However, the apparel sector remains under pressure due to cautious global buying trends.

The industry continues to dominate the country’s industrial exports, highlighting strong structural dependence. At the same time, rising imports indicate steady domestic economic activity but also point to ongoing competitiveness challenges for the sector.
